New Zealand BioSecure Entomology Laboratory
NZBEL has been in operation since 2001 and provides entomology identification services and technical advice (including Border Health training to Authorised Officers) for the Ministry of Health, New Zealand's 12 District Health Boards and a range of other clients.

Our Taxonomists are continually involved in collaborative research projects with other organisations including CRI's, Councils, Universities, and Government Departments as well as industry and private organisations. Past projects have included; product testing for Mosquito repellants, Odour Attraction trials, Flea taxonomy, Blackfly and Willow Sawfly control, design and testing of insect traps, Mosquito and Tick taxonomy and ecology, and vectors and vector-borne disease investigation.
